You are given four marks for your task 1 answer

One for each of these four things:

  • Task Achievement (i.e. how effectively the candidate has identified, illustrated and reported the key features of the
    information in the task)
  • Coherence and Cohesion (i.e. how well the information and ideas are organised, and how well the information is linked)
  • Lexical Resource (i.e. the range of vocabulary used, how accurately it is used and how appropriate it is for the task)
  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy (i.e. the range of structures used, how accurately they are used and how
appropriate they are for the task)

This is what each of these means:

Task achievement
How well have you answered the question? Have you included the right information from the question?

Coherence and cohesion
How well are your ideas and information organised? Do they connect together and is the structure of your answer clear?

Lexical Resource
This means how many different words you use, how well you use them and are they right for the task? For example, are you
using the right words to write a formal letter or to describe how things change in a graph?.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy
This means how many different grammar forms you use and how well you use them. You get a better mark if you can use
more complicated forms and a mixture of long and short sentences. If your mistakes cause problems for the examiner then
this will affect your mark.
